Sabinoso Wilderness Area
Sabinoso Wilderness Area is a remote 29,855-acre protected landscape in San Miguel County, northeastern New Mexico, managed by BLM's Taos Field Office. The terrain features high, narrow mesas surrounded by cliff-lined canyons with elevations from 4,500 to 6,000 feet, supporting piñon-juniper woodland, occasional ponderosa pine, and mesa-top grassland. Access is via improved dirt road from Trujillo (approximately 7 miles), then lightly-maintained route (3 miles) to trailhead; this road is impassable when wet. The area permits primitive camping, hiking, horseback riding, and hunting.
