Introduction to Animal Packing is a hands-on course that teaches the fundamentals of using pack animals to safely transport gear in backcountry settings. Participants learn essential packing techniques, load balancing, knot tying, animal handling, trail travel, and backcountry logistics through practical field instruction. The course emphasizes animal welfare, wilderness safety, and Leave No Trace principles while building the confidence and skills needed for recreational, conservation, or professional pack trips. This course takes place at Natural Curiosity's field station, The Hermosa Field Station in the beautiful Gila National Forest, about 4 hours south of Albuquerque. Please note this is a weekend course running from August 28th - August 30th, from Friday to Sunday!
