Questa Art Tour

Questa, the 'backyard' of Taos, explodes with art for the 11th year! Over 50 artists show at over 20 stops from downtown in this historic village, east toward the Carson National Forest, and north overlooking the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Maps are available online to study in advance, and will be on hand at every stop and throughout town. Some stops are individual studios, with many hosting guest artists for the weekend, and many more stops gather far-flung artists into easy-access locations, plus a few special pop-up galleries will be erected for the tour only. The upper Rio Grande Valley has a strong tradition of hands-on artistry, developed from need, and inspired by the surrounding beauty and the skills of those who settled this land. The restored San Antonio de Padua church on Questa’s historic plaza has been an exhibition stop on the arts tour each year. Though its many skilled craftspeople remain unnamed, by choice, a local historian will be present to tell this impressive story of a community coming together and artistry continuing to be part of Questa’s present. This 11th year, will showcase furniture-makers, glass artists, highly-skilled potters, leather workers, a paper quillwork artist, a sculptor of guards, and one of metals, knitters, quilters, wood-workers, jewelers with mediums ranging from detailed beadwork to semi-precious stones, a traditionally-stunning photographer and a new photographer pushing the boundary of fine-art manipulation. Print and mixed-media artists are taking part. And, of course, the favorite for lovers of southwest art; 20+ painters. Art collectors will find paintings in every medium, in both abstract and representational styles.
