NM-4 through the Jemez: red-rock canyons, Jemez Springs and its historic bathhouse, Battleship Rock, the travertine arc of Soda Dam, and the vast green bowl of the Valles Caldera. Roadside hot springs and Bandelier make easy add-ons.
The byway passes through the Pueblo of Jemez (Walatowa). Photography is prohibited in the village; stop at the Walatowa Visitor Center for guidance and current protocols.
This place is on or near tribal nations’ land. Photography, drones, and recordings may be prohibited or restricted, and some sites close for feast days, ceremonies, or seasonally. Check posted guidelines or contact the managing nation before visiting — respectful access supports these communities.
