Apache Box Wilderness Study Area

Apache Box Wilderness Study Area is a BLM-managed backcountry area in Hidalgo County, southwestern New Mexico, approximately 46 miles west of Silver City. The namesake feature is a deep, narrow canyon carved by Apache Creek with sheer cliffs rising 600 feet. The area features riparian vegetation in the canyon and juniper-piñon woodlands in upland areas. This is untrailed wilderness requiring map-reading skills and backcountry navigation; no established trail system exists.
