Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness

Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness is a trail-less expanse of badlands east of Farmington in San Juan County, northwestern New Mexico, featuring otherworldly hoodoos, cracked clay formations, and petrified wood. There are no marked trails, no water, and no signage — navigation is entirely self-directed, and unpaved access roads become impassable when wet. No entry fee is charged. Collection of cultural objects, fossils, and petrified wood is prohibited; the landscape sits within the ancestral territory of the Navajo Nation and nearby Pueblos.
