Chamisa Wilderness Study Area

A higher plateau in north-central New Mexico dominated by piñon and ponderosa pines. The arid northern portion contrasts with the forested southern section. Wildlife viewing opportunities include elk herds, mule deer, coyotes, and Merriam's turkeys. Accessed via County Road 279 and BLM road 1103 west of San Ysidro. Gate locked during wet weather.
