The site features dramatic vertical basalt cliffs with over 100 climbing routes ranging from 5.8 to 5.13 in difficulty, plus a canyon trail (wash) approximately 7.5 miles out and back that descends through uneven terrain with large rocks, ending at the Río Grande. The area is characterized by hot, dry conditions with little shade and no potable water; western canyon walls and the trail are managed by the US Forest Service. Primitive dispersed camping and three defined car camping sites with a vault toilet (no water) are available at the trailhead.
