Gray Peak Wilderness Study Area

Gray Peak Wilderness Study Area is a 11-mile rugged mountain ridgeline with five peaks in the Hidalgo County bootheel of southwestern New Mexico, approximately 40 miles from Lordsburg. Managed by the BLM's Las Cruces District Office, the area features Madrean pine-oak woodland habitat supporting Mexican long-tongued bats, coatimundi, desert bighorn sheep, and green rat snakes. Permitted uses include wilderness recreation, hiking, hunting, and wildlife viewing. IMPORTANT: There is currently no legal public access across adjoining lands to reach this wilderness study area.
