Guadalupe Ruin

A steep, unimproved footpath leads 0.25 miles to a single-story masonry pueblo—the easternmost Chacoan Outlier—situated atop an isolated sandstone mesa rising 200 feet. The site contains at least 39 rectangular rooms and 7 semi-subterranean kivas (two stabilized and roofed). Reoccupied in the late 13th century by Mesa Verde immigrants. Archaeological resources are protected under the Antiquities Act and ARPA; violators face up to 5 years imprisonment and $250,000 fines. The mesa top offers expansive views across the Rio Puerco Valley. Remote location requires high-clearance vehicle access (approximately 2 hours from Albuquerque).
