Loco Lagoon

Loco Lagoon (formerly Conoco Lake) is a three-acre freshwater pond in Lea County, southeastern New Mexico, managed by the BLM Carlsbad Field Office. Created in 1990 through a cooperative agreement with Conoco, Inc., it is stocked with catfish and bass by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. The site provides day-use fishing, birding, wildlife viewing, photography, and picnicking in the Maljamar oil field region. Access is via an unmarked two-track road marked by a black pumpjack, located 0.6 miles south of Maljamar Road after traveling 3.3 miles on Maljamar Road. The site has no facilities or potable water. Overnight camping, boating, firearms discharge, and fireworks are prohibited. Visitors must watch for uneven ground, low branches, and slip/fall hazards.
