Mescalero Sands North Dune Off-Highway Vehicle Area

Mescalero Sands North Dune Off-Highway Vehicle Area encompasses more than 610 acres of towering 90+ foot sand dunes composed of shifting quartz particles on the western side of the Llano Estacado near Roswell, New Mexico. Managed by the BLM Roswell Field Office, this open OHV recreation area features mature cottonwood trees, with dunes that shift approximately one foot annually due to southwest winds. Located between Tatum and Roswell along US Route 380; the nearest food and gas services are 35 miles away in Tatum or 45 miles in Roswell.
