Mudgetts Wilderness Study Area
Mudgetts Wilderness Study Area is a rugged, undeveloped landscape of steeply rolling limestone hills and canyons located approximately 30 miles southwest of Carlsbad in Eddy County, New Mexico. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Carlsbad Field Office, the area is characterized by desert shrubland with scattered sotol, agave, and juniper, plus caves and wildlife habitat. Access requires navigation of unmaintained dirt roads and walking several miles across rough terrain; the final mile involves rough four-wheel-drive conditions. No facilities, water, or services are available.
