Peloncillo Mountains Wilderness Study Area
Peloncillo Mountains Wilderness Study Area is a low-mountain landscape in southwestern New Mexico's Hidalgo County, managed by the BLM Las Cruces Field Office. The WSA borders the Peloncillo Wilderness in Arizona and features cliffs, numerous canyons, and gentle desert grassland hills within the Madrean Sky Islands ecosystem. Wildlife includes desert bighorn sheep, Gila monsters, and pincushion cacti. Access from Interstate 10 Exit 3 at Steins, NM; drive northeast on Summit Road approximately 10.5 miles. Hiking and wilderness activities permitted with a 14-day stay limit.
