Quebradas Backcountry Byway

An unpaved county road traversing approximately 24 miles of rugged, geologically colorful landscapes east of Socorro in Socorro County, New Mexico. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management (Socorro Field Office), the byway features rolling bench lands and north-south running ridges with alternating bands of red and yellow sandstone, red and purple shale, and white to gray limestone. Notable formations include near-vertical, multicolored cliffs, badlands, and box canyons. Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge lies to the north and Bosque del Apache to the south. High-clearance or 4-wheel drive vehicle recommended; the road becomes difficult or impassable after heavy rain.
