Rio Grande del Norte National Monument

Rio Grande del Norte National Monument is a 243,000-acre protected area in northern New Mexico managed by the BLM's Taos Field Office. Located at roughly 7,000 feet elevation on the Taos Plateau, it features the Rio Grande plunging through an 800-foot gorge, three extinct volcanic cones (Cerro de la Olla, Cerro San Antonio, Cerro del Yuta), and over 50 miles of Wild and Scenic River including two congressionally designated wilderness areas. The landscape encompasses sagebrush plains, steep canyons, wild rivers, and native grasslands supporting diverse wildlife and unique geological resources.
