San Lorenzo Canyon
San Lorenzo Canyon is a primitive recreation area in Socorro County, New Mexico, located approximately 5 miles northwest of Lemitar. The canyon features sandstone cliffs, arches, and hoodoos with geological significance spanning millions of years, plus cottonwood vegetation, springs, and creeks. Jointly managed by the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, it is accessed via a maintained dirt road from Lemitar, though high-clearance or 4-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended. The area offers hiking, primitive camping, photography, and wildlife viewing; no water or restrooms are available.
