West Malpais Wilderness Area

West Malpais Wilderness Area in southwestern New Mexico is a largely flat volcanic landscape of lava flows encompassing three distinct ecotypes. Managed by the BLM Rio Puerco Field Office, the area is open for hiking, wildlife viewing, and photography.
