Continental Divide National Scenic Trail
The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail follows the Rocky Mountain spine for approximately 3,100 miles between Mexico and Canada, with this northwestern New Mexico segment managed by the BLM Rio Puerco Field Office. The corridor supports hiking, equestrian travel, camping, fishing, wildlife viewing, environmental education, and photography. Empedrado Wilderness Study Area
Empedrado Wilderness Study Area is a BLM wilderness study area in New Mexico, managed by the Rio Puerco Field Office. The landscape features deep arroyos, highly sculpted sandstone and shale mesas, and canyons. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passes through the area, marked by cairns only. The WSA supports nesting golden eagles, prairie falcons, and other raptors on its sandstone cliffs, and vegetation includes grama grass, cactus, and Knight's milevetch. Accessed from San Ysidro via US 550 and NM 279.
