El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail
El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail in south-central New Mexico follows the earliest Euro-American trade route in the United States, linking Mexico City to New Mexico across approximately 1,600 miles and three centuries. Many historic parajes — traditional stopping places along the route — eventually grew into modern Rio Grande Valley cities. The trail is jointly administered by the BLM and NPS. Photography is permitted. Contact the managing agencies for current access and camping details.
